The company was established in 1890 by Robert Forbes Browne who was a master plumber residing in Sketty, Swansea.
For over 118 years R. F. Browne has loyally served the people of Swansea, initially providing specialist expertise in plumbing, but soon adapted to changes in technology, applying their skills to gas heating and lighting and finally embracing electricity upon its discovery.
Today, R. F. Browne is still a family run company which is well respected in the community and known for their skilled and friendly workforce, all of whom have been employed by the company for over thirty years and are Part L compliant.

Robert Forbes Browne was born in 1859, the tenth child of a ship owners agent from Sunderland.
He left school at age 13 and was apprenticed to John Henry Nott of Ferry Side (Swansea) as a Plumber and Brazier. After completing his apprenticeship in 1879 he became a Journeyman Plumber.
Robert died in 1926 when control of the business passed to his son, Lawrence Gordon Browne, himself a qualified plumber.
Robert’s youngest son, Arthur Hamilton Browne, also worked for the family business as a qualified electrician.
In 1963 the family business became a limited liability company trading as ‘R. F. Browne (Sketty) Limited’
